The Government of India launched India’s most extensive cleanliness drive—the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the year 2014.The flagship cleanliness campaign aims to clean the roads and infrastructure of India’s cities, towns, and villages and make India open defecation free (ODF) by 2019. Now, to promote the mission further, the government plans to rope in College/University students and offer them a Swachh Bharat Summer Internship where they can work for the campaign.
The program aims to:
- Develop the skill and orientation of youth for sanitation related work
- Bring youth across the country an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the swachhata revolution
- Integrate youth in the community service in rural areas in the run-up to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
